I See Faces I Will Not See Again

I see faces I will not see again
faces cold and empty, faces made of stone
and smiles, and a deep, hidden scar
flashing in tender, grief-stricken eyes.

I see faces I will not see again
and these faces I dream of, but can never remember;
I see outlines and smudges of crimson and pink
and the dark shadows of coats crossing the street.
